Stuart Hetherington is a Partner in the Commercial Dispute Resolution Group as well as the Insurance Group and also leads a team of practitioners knowledgeable in Trade and Transport law. Stuart has acted for many overseas and local insurance companies and syndicates, conducting cases in diverse areas including fire, professional indemnity, directors and officers liability, product liability, financial institutions and business interruption.
In April 2005, Stuart was appointed one of two Vice Presidents of the prestigious Comite Maritime International (CMI) organisation, having served as an Executive Councillor of that organisation for the last five years. He chairs the International sub committee of CMI on the topic of "Places of Refuge".
He has also served on the Boards of the Sydney Ports Corporation and the New South Wales Chapter of the Australian Insurance Law Association.
Stuart is an accomplished author, having published Annoted Admiralty Legislation in 1988 and numerous articles. He has also presented papers at seminars for clients, the legal profession and the insurance and shipping industries.
Stuart was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1973 and admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1978. He is admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of NSW, Federal Court and High Court of Australia. Stuart joined CBP as a Partner in 2005.
