Colin Biggers & Paisley is very pleased to announce the appointment of Philip Atkin as special counsel in the legal practice's insurance team in Melbourne.

Philip is highly skilled in managing building and construction disputes on behalf of his clients, which include professional indemnity insurers, builders warranty insurers, builders, engineers, architects, building owners and property developers. He has extensive experience acting in building defects and property damage claims, and regularly advises insurers and government authorities on matters relating to building and construction legislation and policy coverage issues.

Philip regularly appears for clients in private mediations and in Court ordered alternative dispute resolution settings, achieving excellent results.

Colin Biggers & Paisley is recognised by Best Lawyers in Australia as the 2018 insurance law firm of the year for the second year running, while Chambers Asia Pacific for 2018 ranked its insurance practice as band one.

Managing Partner Nick Crennan said the appointment further strengthens the practice's extensive capabilities in insurance.

"We're committed to delivering commercially-focussed outcomes for our clients, which is why we continue to build on our strengths and capability." Nick said.

"The appointment is a further reflection of our ability to attract top talent to enable us to deliver top quality service."

Philip, who will be working closely with partners Cathryn Prowse and Jonathan Newby, said he was excited about joining Colin Biggers & Paisley.

"This is a legal practice that has a strong reputation in both insurance and construction and so I'm looking forward to working with the team."

The announcement follows the senior appointments last week of partner Glen Williams to the restructuring and insolvency team in Brisbane and partner Megan Bowe to the employment and safety team in Sydney. In September, the legal practice announced the appointments of employment and safety special counsel Dimity Leahy, and restructuring and insolvency senior associate Hannah Griffiths.
