Colin Biggers & Paisley has advised on the agreements between the Pellicano and Perri Projects joint venture and Hyatt Hotels to open a 170 room hotel in the $700 million South City Square precinct in Brisbane.

The agreements between the Hyatt and Pellicano and Perri Projects were signed in Melbourne on Tuesday morning and marks a return to Queensland for the global luxury hotel brand. The Hyatt Hotel joins a number of other high-end boutique hotels which are entering the market in Brisbane, an indication the hotel industry is fighting back against competitors such as Airbnb.

The Colin Biggers & Paisley team was led by Partner and Head of Hotels, Tourism and Hospitality Duane Keighran, supported by Special Counsel Georgia Arya and Partner and Head of Property Rhett Oliver and Senior Associate Julia Hewitt on titling and development aspects of the deal.

Lead Partner Duane Keighran said the legal practice is providing legal advice to Pellicano and Perri Projects on all aspects of the South City Square precinct development as well as the Hyatt agreement and looks forward to continuing to do so until the project's completion and settlement of all the apartment sales, and leasing of all retail and commercial spaces.

"It was a pleasure to support Pellicano and Perri Projects in bringing Hyatt’s brand back to Brisbane within the world class South City Square development. The transaction posed particularly interesting issues given the mixed use nature of the project and the complex titling arrangements, which we were able to navigate successfully by working closely with our client’s development team, and by calling upon the historical experience our integrated legal team possessed by working on this development for some time.”

The South City Square precinct in CBD fringe suburb Woolloongabba is a mixed use development comprising of apartments, restaurants and cafes, a Woolworths, cinema, retail and commercial spaces and a child care centre. The mixed use development, one of the largest in the state, comprises of three stages, with the first two stages completed in 2018, the third expected to finish this year, and other stages to follow.
