Hamish Ratten is a special counsel in the corporate and commercial team in Melbourne.
Prior to joining Colin Biggers & Paisley Hamish worked at ASIC, where he was involved in the regulation and oversight of the investment management industry, as well as advising ASIC and other Government bodies on international financial services regulatory matters. He specialises in investment management and financial services regulation and provides additional expertise for the team in servicing our funds management, property and non-bank lending clients.
He has experience in all legal and regulatory aspects. This includes advising domestic and international fund managers on establishing, structuring, promoting and marketing funds and financial services that support investment management. His experience also includes considering technology innovation in financial services and the legal and regulatory impacts for the emerging Fintech sector.
Hamish has worked with fund managers and financial service providers on their ongoing legal requirements such as advising on public and private fund establishment, product disclosure and distribution, portfolio management arrangements, investment advisory arrangements, custody and administration. For Australian funds and financial service providers, this includes work across Australian financial services licensing, breach reporting, registered scheme requirements, trustee powers and duties and financial services law compliance. International work includes foreign financial service provider and foreign collective investment scheme regulation in Australia.
As well as his Bachelor of Laws, Hamish holds degrees in Arts with a double major in Economics and Honours in Business management and marketing.
