Law firm Colin Biggers & Paisley has recruited Nigel Watson from TressCox Lawyers. He becomes the firm's third lateral hire at partner level in as many months, in addition to the six partners who joined when Colin Biggers & Paisley merged with Monahan + Rowell on 1 June 2012.

Colin Biggers & Paisley Managing Partner Dunstan de Souza says the firm is always looking to bring in high quality people to support its plans for growth.

"Our five year strategic plan focuses on developing the firm's expertise in our core areas of dispute resolution, insurance, construction and property. Nigel's appointment adds market-leading experience to both our dispute resolution and insurance practices in Melbourne," said Mr de Souza.

"Nigel's work in defending solicitors and barristers in professional negligence claims on behalf of their professional indemnity insurers is a particularly good fit with the work of Patrick Monahan, our Melbourne Senior Partner, and Peter Moran, our Insurance Practice Group leader. Nigel also brings us an insolvency and reconstruction practice that will complement and support our expertise in those areas in Sydney."

Nigel was chairman of the Hunt & Hunt Legal Group before he joined TressCox. Prior to that he was a partner with Norton Rose predecessor firms for over twenty years. As chairman of the Insolvency & Reconstruction Committee of the Law Council of Australia, he established a national focus on reform and a common working agenda. He is also a member of the Law Institute of Victoria Commercial Litigation Law Specialisation Advisory Committee and recommended in numerous legal guides for his expertise in both insolvency and restructuring and in dispute resolution.

Nigel has known Patrick Monahan and the Colin Biggers & Paisley Melbourne team for many years. He has always held them in high regard and he is looking forward to helping expand the firm's profile in Melbourne.

"The new Colin Biggers & Paisley, incorporating Monahan & Rowell, is a great firm with leading expertise and clearly articulated growth plans that align with my skillset and client base. I look forward to applying my litigation, insolvency and legal professional indemnity experience alongside the teams in Melbourne and Sydney to advance CBP's strategic plans," said Nigel.

"I have been particularly impressed with Colin Biggers & Paisley's focus on developing and encouraging its people in a stable but exciting and growing legal practice. This bodes well for the future."
