Colin Biggers & Paisley is very pleased to welcome both Katrina Gillies as special counsel and John McGirr as senior associate to its insurance team.

Katrina has significant litigation, governance and compliance experience. Most recently, Katrina was a senior legal adviser to one of Australia's major churches, managing its response to, and legal matters arising from, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

John is an experienced litigator with broad experience in general commercial litigation, and has a particular interest in solicitor negligence and medical negligence litigation. John works closely with his clients, developing a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of a matter in the early stages to advise his clients on liability, quantum and strategy as soon as possible.

Colin Biggers & Paisley Managing Partner Nick Crennan said the two new appointments further enhance its position as a leading law practice in insurance.

"We have a strong reputation as a leader in insurance, frequently recognised for our expertise and services by Best Lawyers in Australia, Chambers Asia Pacific and Doyle's Guide. We are very proud of the calibre of people and talent we are able to attract."

"Our insurance team is undergoing rapid growth, not just in Melbourne but across the eastern seaboard. Katrina and John's experience will complement our insurance team's already impressive skill set and be of great value to our clients."

These appointments follow other recent senior appointments in insurance. Just last month the Melbourne office welcomed special counsel Philip Atkin and a few months ago the Brisbane office welcomed senior associate Angela Smith and partner Michelle Taylor. In other practice areas, Colin Biggers & Paisley also recently welcomed partners Connie Chen to the corporate and commercial team and China practice, Megan Bowe and Sara McRostie to employment and safety, and Glen Williams in restructuring and insolvency.
