Jonathan is a partner in the construction and engineering team and has over 15 years' experience in advising government, developers, contractors, consultants and financiers on a broad range of major construction and engineering projects in Australia, Asia and the UK.
Jonathan specialises in advising clients on the procurement, structuring and delivery of projects, the allocation and management of risks, and the drafting and negotiation of the project documentation (including project deeds, head contracts, subcontracts, consultants' appointments and financing documentation). Jonathan also advises clients on the on-going management of contracts and on design, construction, operation and maintenance issues.
Jonathan is experienced in advising across a number of different contracting models, including PPPs, alliances, EPC/EPCM contracts, design & construct and construct-only contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, subcontracts and consultants' appointments.
Jonathan's experience covers a broad range of sectors, including rail, roads, ports, prisons, courts, energy, telecommunications, commercial, residential, retail, health and education projects.
Jonathan joined the legal practice in 2013 after seven years with Clayton Utz's Construction & Major Projects Group, prior to which he spent seven years with DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard in the UK.
Jonathan is listed in the Legal 500 for 2014 for construction.
Jonathan is listed in the 2014-15, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of Best Lawyers in Australia in the field of construction and infrastructure law.
He is admitted to practice in New South Wales, the High Court and in England & Wales.

Advised a number of developers, contractors, financiers and consultants on a broad range of commercial, residential, retail and hotel projects, including Grocon's 161 Castlereagh Street development, Stockland's The Hyde residential development, the Darling Harbour Redevelopment, plus a number of other significant hotel, retail, residential and retirement living projects.
Roads / rail / ports infrastructure
Advised on a number of significant road, rail and ports infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Southern Sydney Freight Line and Hunter Valley Coal Freight Line, maintenance of the Country Regional Network, ARTC's Advanced Train Management System project, RailCorp's Waratah Trains Rolling Stock PPP, the Sydney Metro Project, Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group's Kooragang Island Coal Export Terminal and the Airport Link Toll Road and Northern Busway PPP.
Health and education
Advised on a number of significant health and education infrastructure projects in Australia and the UK, including South East Queensland Schools PPP, Three Shires Hospital PFI and Central Manchester Hospital PFI projects.
Advised NBN Co on the drafting and negotiation of the key construction contracts for the rollout of the National Broadband Network. Jonathan also spent 12 months on secondment to NBN Co in the role of senior legal counsel for commercial and construction, with particular responsibility for new developments.
