Michael Finney is a senior associate in the corporate and commercial team.
Michael's practice is focused on helping his clients to negotiate complex commercial contracts, protect and commercialise intellectual property, secure partnership and funding deals, bring technology and products to market, and navigate corporate governance, privacy, corporation and competition laws.
Michael has broad experience in negotiating and drafting funding and shareholders agreements with venture and private equity, outsourcing and insourcing of professional technology services, numerous licences and assignments, intellectual property protection strategies, collaboration and joint venture agreements, corporate governance of technology companies, and M&A and prospectus due diligence work associated with ASX listings. Combined with his strong technical background in engineering, science and biomedical technology disciplines, Michael understands client drivers and is able to deliver innovative business solutions and creative outcomes in managing risk and leveraging commercial value.
Michael acts for clients across the university, commercial and government sectors.
Michael is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. In addition to his legal qualifications, Michael holds a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration. He is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is one of only seven lawyers in Australia to have met the Certified Licensing Professional requirements.
