Toby is a partner in Colin Biggers & Paisley's corporate and commercial team.

Toby has over 20 years' experience advising clients on a range of commercial activities with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets. 

Over his career, Toby has advised on hundreds of M&A and capital market deals taking place both within Australia and across international borders.

He has extensive experience advising clients in all aspects of their commercial activities, including involvement with the technology, resources, transport and financial services industries.  

Toby's experience also includes proprietorship of his own law firm, senior in-house counsel legal experience and seven years as a capital markets regulator. During this time he co-managed the legal and market supervision teams at the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX). Toby has also spent time on secondment in the legal team of Australia’s largest Telco.  

Toby is a board member of an incorporated association that champions emerging technologies. He has seen more and more of his clients relying on or grappling with emerging technologies.

All of these roles provided valuable insights into the issues being faced by today’s businesses that continue to inform how Toby advises his clients. 

In addition to his Bachelor of Laws, Toby has a Masters in Applied Finance and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science. Toby was admitted to practice in Victoria and New Zealand in 1999.
