Michael is a partner in Colin Biggers & Paisley's corporate and commercial practice in Sydney.
Michael has an extensive corporate advisory, transaction and regulatory practice with a particular focus on financial services, banking and payments, insurance, reinsurance, capital markets, health funds and mutuals.
His expertise encompasses:
- providing corporate and commercial legal advice to the financial services and insurance industry and related sectors including the e-commerce sector, banks, non-bank financial institutions, financial services providers and intermediaries such as futures and commodities dealers and broking houses, payment system operators, health funds, medical defence mutuals, medical indemnity insurers and reinsurers;
- regulatory and governance advice in the insurance, financial services and health fund industry sectors including APRA Legislation and Prudential Standards together with advice to boards on director liability, directors and officers risk, coverage and compliance; and
- ongoing liaison and dealings with regulators such as ASIC, APRA, ASX, Treasury and Department of Health.
Michael has been listed as a Leading Lawyer in the AsiaLaw Profiles for Insurance and M&A in 2018, for Financial Services Regulatory (2015 and 2016) and Banking & Finance (2014, 2015 and 2016).
Michael has also been recognised by Best Lawyers each year since 2017 for his expertise in Commercial Law. He was selected for inclusion in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13) for Corporate/M&A and in IFLR1000 Legal Guide (2015) for Financial Services Regulatory and M&A.
Michael is admitted to practice in the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
In addition to a Bachelor of Laws, Michael also has a Bachelor of Jurisprudence.
