A member of the insurance team since 2020, and a senior associate since 2022, Amaya's practice predominantly focuses on employment practices liability claims.

Amaya advises clients across a range of industries, including retail, fast food, education, manufacturing, and technology. She regularly appears in a variety of different jurisdictions, including the Federal Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, and in tribunals including the Fair Work Commission, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission and the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Amaya's experience includes advising and representing employers in relation to unfair dismissal, general protections, anti-bullying claims, discrimination claims, interpretation of instruments, management of complex industrial disputes, and bullying claims. Her focus is providing commercially sensible advice, mitigating risks, and running claims in an efficient manner.

Amaya has particular experience in disputes within the retail sector, from individual dismissal claims made in the Fair Work Commission to large-scale multiparty litigation in the Federal jurisdiction. The number of claims she has run in this area means that while she is adept in front-end advisory work, she is also skilled in advocating for clients in mediations, conciliations, interlocutory hearings and other contested appearances.

Amaya also has a particular interest in advising within the education sector, including the management of state and federal discrimination complaints brought by parents of students, historical and contemporary abuse claims, performance management of underperforming faculty members and general operational legal advice. Through her work in representing schools, she is well versed in the balancing act of putting forth a strong defence whilst also maintaining the pastoral approach emphasised in a school environment.

In addition to her Bachelor of Laws, Amaya holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in History from Monash University. Amaya was admitted to practice in October 2017.
