Paul Spackman is a special counsel in the Insurance Group. Paul has worked as a lawyer in both Sydney, at a large international law firm, and the United States. His focus is on insurance coverage disputes involving speciality and casualty insurance claims including directors' and officers' liability, professional indemnity for financial institutions, general liability, product liability, business interruption, first party property loss as well as regulatory investigations of insurers.
Paul spent nine years as an associate at Dickstein Shapiro LLP in Washington DC. Paul has been involved in disputes over coverage for shareholder derivative and securities claims, environmental liability claims, building and asbestos products claims, class action mass tort claims, defamation claims and property and business interruption losses arising out of the events of September 11 and Hurricane Katrina.
Paul has co-authored and presented on numerous insurance related topics over the past several years including, "Shareholder Class Actions and Insurance Coverage", "General Liability Insurance and Global Warming" and "Key Components of Business Interruption Coverage".
Paul is admitted to practice as a solicitor in New South Wales and as a lawyer in the Commonwealth of Virginia (associate status), the District of Columbia, and the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He clerked for The Honourable Welton Curtis Sewell in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
