A senior associate in the construction and engineering team since 2022, Basel advises and acts primarily for head contractors and subcontractors, as well as principals, developers and owners in both front-end and back-end construction and infrastructure matters, including all aspects of contract management and disputes.
Basel's experience includes preparing pleadings, defences and joinder applications for proceedings, and drafting pleadings for adjudication applications made under the Security of Payment Act, including submissions in response. He has also appeared before various courts and tribunals in directions hearings, mediations and compulsory conferences.
Basel has worked on a number of high-profile infrastructure projects, including the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project, North East Link Project, Bushfire Recovery Victoria Project and Wollert Primary Bridge Strengthening Project while he was based in Melbourne. Through his previous position with the Australian Building and Construction Commission, Basel brings expertise in Building Code compliance.
In addition to his Bachelor of Laws degree, Basel holds a Bachelor of Economics. Basel was admitted to practice in 2017.
