Cathryn has been a member of Colin Biggers & Paisley's insurance team since 2012 and currently serves as joint practice leader of the same team. She has experience in litigation and dispute resolution in all Victorian and federal jurisdictions.

Cathryn receives instructions, primarily from financial lines insurers, to act on claims against professionals and entities largely under professional indemnity, D&O and management liability policies. These include construction professionals, accountants, tax agents, financial advisers, brokers, education providers, local councils, estate agents, valuers and healthcare and pharma professionals. In this context, Cathryn provides both complex coverage advice for underwriters and defence work for insureds.

Through property and title insurers, Cathryn receives instructions from insurers to act in multiparty long tail property-related proceedings including business interruption claims and mortgage recoveries involving fraud. Cathryn has particular experience advising insurers on coverage in the context of exposure from the recent COVID-19 pandemic. 

Alongside her insurance work, Cathryn oversees a busy employment practice acting for employers in unfair dismissal, general protections, discrimination, underpayment/breaks and other workplace-related claims. She also advises on termination, redundancy, employment contracts, sub-contractor arrangements and best practice workplace policies. Her team also advises in the disciplinary space including on the conduct and performance of regulated and licensed professionals.

Cathryn completed a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours). She was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2004.
