Stuart Hetherington is a partner in the Corporate and Dispute Resolution Group as well as the Insurance Group and leads a team of practitioners knowledgeable in trade and transport law in both Sydney and Melbourne. Stuart has acted in a wide range of shipping and commercial litigation cases and has also acted for many overseas and local insurance companies and syndicates, conducting cases in diverse areas including fire, professional indemnity, directors and officers liability, product liability, financial institutions and business interruption.

Stuart was awarded the Lloyd’s List DCN Maritime Service Award in 2010.

In October 2012, Stuart was appointed President of the prestigious Comité Maritime International (CMI). 

He has also served on the boards of the Sydney Port Authority and the Sydney Ports Corporation.

Stuart is an accomplished author, having published Annotated Admiralty Legislation in 1988 and numerous articles. He has also presented papers at seminars for clients, the legal profession and the insurance and shipping industries.

Stuart was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1973 and admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1978. He is admitted to practise in the Supreme Court NSW, the Federal Court and the High Court of Australia. Stuart joined CBP as a partner in 2005.
