Andrew Tulloch is a partner in the insurance team. Andrew's practice focus is on trade and transport law, supply chain and logistics. He has extensive experience in maritime and aviation law and has a special interest in transport insurance. Andrew is very experienced in the insurance of the shipping, offshore and transportation sectors.
Andrew acts for a wide variety of maritime and aviation clients in Australia in all aspects of trade and transport law, including advice in relation to disputes concerning imports and exports and advice to port authorities and ship and airline operators. He also acts for cargo and hull insurers.
Andrew has extensive knowledge in subrogated recovery actions against air and sea carriers. He also has experience in policy interpretation and drafting. He has worked both in Australia and overseas providing advice to insurers in relation to these issues and has extensive knowledge of both the Australian Insurance Contracts Act 1984 and the Marine Insurance Act 1909 (Cth).
Andrew has advised many major corporations on supply chain and logistics contracts and has also advised on a number of major disputes regarding damage to offshore energy facilities.
Andrew has had significant involvement over many years in the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand and the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand and is the past President of the latter Association. He regularly participates in the Sydney Marine Discussion Group and was a founding member of both the Melbourne Marine Insurance Forum and the Australian Aviation Insurance Forum.
Andrew joined the legal practice as a partner in 2013.
Andrew has been ranked as a leading lawyer for shipping in Chambers and Partners each year since 2014. In 2021-2022, Chambers and Partners has also ranked Andrew as a leading lawyer for aviation. Andrew is listed as a leading individual in transport law, as well as being recommended in this practice area in the editions of Legal 500 Asia Pacific since 2015. In the 2021 and 2022 editions he is listed in the Hall of Fame category for Transport: shipping. He is listed as a leading lawyer in the shipping and aviation sections in Who's Who Legal Transport 2019.
Andrew is named in Doyle's Guide 2016 as a recommended lawyer in shipping and maritime, as well as aviation in Australia. In 2017-2019 and 2022 he is listed as a leading shipping and maritime lawyer, and a leading aviation lawyer. In 2020, Doyle's Guide listed Andrew as a preeminent lawyer in the area of aviation law, and a leading lawyer in the area of admiralty shipping & maritime law.
Andrew is listed in the 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 editions of The Best Lawyers in Australia in the fields of aviation, insurance, trade and transportation, and in Shipping and Maritime Law in the 2023 edition. In addition, Best Lawyers named Andrew Lawyer of the Year in trade law in 2016 and in the 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions he was listed as the Lawyer of the Year in aviation. Andrew is also listed in AsiaLaw 2020 as a Distinguished Practitioner for his expertise in shipping.
Andrew is the author of the Australian chapter in the 8th edition of The Aviation Law Review, which was published in September 2020.
