Ben Caldwell is a partner in the planning and environment team at Colin Biggers & Paisley. He has expertise in all areas of planning and environmental law and also specialises in property development.

Ben has advised a number of large corporations on planning developments, including a development with 20,000 lots. His expertise covers a wide range of planning including for banks, commercial developers and local governments.

Ben has advised local and state governments on reviewing budgets and rating proposals, preparing planning scheme policies and the preparation of agreements between local councils and private companies. He has also advised on numerous infrastructure projects throughout Brisbane and Queensland for both local governments and private companies.

Ben has advised on many major environment and sustainability matters in Queensland, including the North South Bypass Tunnel, Airport Link and the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal. He has also had significant experience advising on an environmental offsets system, delegations and planning legislation, as well as general advice of local laws and the Environmental Protection Act 1994.

In 2016, Doyle's Guide listed Ben as a recommended Queensland planning and environment lawyer. From 2017 to 2022, Doyle's Guide listed Ben as a recommended Queensland planning and development lawyer, and from 2017 to 2019 as a recommended planning and environment, and environment and heritage lawyer. In the 2019 to 2024 editions of The Best Lawyers in Australia, Ben is listed as a leading Planning and Environment lawyer. 

Ben holds a Bachelor of Commerce in addition to his Bachelor of Laws. He joined the legal practice in 2013.
