As Head of Pro Bono at Colin Biggers & Paisley, Rebecca leads our pro bono legal practice. Drawing on her extensive experience in the legal assistance sector and academia, she is known for bringing an integrated, strategic lens to complex human rights and access to justice work.


Overview

Rebecca is a senior lawyer and leader committed to building effective programs, partnerships and systems that deliver both individual legal outcomes and lasting structural change. She brings warmth, judgment and a collaborative approach to her work, with a strong focus on understanding clients' needs and navigating multifaceted issues in a practical and strategic way. She collaborates with individuals, community organisations, Non-Government Organisations and government to deliver legal services, build capability and drive systemic law reform.

Rebecca's primary areas of practice include modern slavery and human trafficking, family and sexual violence, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights, criminal law and refugee law. She has substantial experience in pro bono leadership, clinical legal education and public interest advocacy. 

Rebecca's work has been recognised across legal and teaching practice, including the University of Technology Sydney Alumni Award for Excellence in Law, the Western Sydney University Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Indigenous Teaching and Learning and the Australian Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award.

She is an appointed member of Legal Aid NSW’s Legal Aid Review Panel (criminal matters), the Law Society of NSW’s Human Rights Committee and holds a range of external committee and advisory board roles, including as a member of the Modern Slavery Advisory Board to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Forced Marriage Civil Society Consultation Group.

Rebecca was admitted in 2009 to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and in 2016 to the High Court of Australia. She has completed the University of Oxford and Saïd Business School Executive Leadership Programme, the College of Law’s Legal Practice Management Course and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Sydney and Master of Law and Legal Practice (Hons) from the University of Technology Sydney.
