Over his 30 year career Andrew has acted as coverage and defence counsel across a diverse range of insurance matters. He has built enviable expertise in commercial and general insurance litigation in a range of jurisdictions, including State and Federal Courts and various tribunals.
Overview
Andrew acts for both local and overseas insurers in general liability, product liability, property damage and business interruption claims. He also deals with captive insurance and reinsurance matters, fraud investigations, motor vehicle claims, and provides detailed policy reviews and wording advice.
Andrew has conducted claims for a wide range of professionals and their organisations, including directors and officers, solicitors, accountants, financial institutions, stockbrokers, real estate agents, patent attorneys, insurance brokers and trustees.
Andrew has extensive experience representing insurers in a wide range of transport work, including marine recoveries, port liability claims and claims arising from road and rail carriage of goods.
Andrew is widely recognised for his expertise across a broad range of publications and industry guides. In The Best Lawyers in Australia, he was named 2023 Transportation Lawyer of the Year and is consistently listed for Insurance, Transportation, Shipping and Maritime, Legal Malpractice and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has also been recognised in Doyle’s Guide as a leading lawyer in Professional Indemnity and Public and Product Liability and in Expert Guides for Insurance and Reinsurance.
Andrew’s expertise has further been acknowledged in the 2026 and 2027 editions of Best Lawyers, where he is listed for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Insurance Law, Legal Malpractice Litigation, Product Liability Litigation, Shipping and Maritime Law and Transportation Law. He was also named Lawyer of the Year for Legal Malpractice Litigation in 2026.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Laws from Deakin University. He was admitted to legal practice in South Australia in 1992, the Federal Court and High Court in 1993 and Victoria in 1996.
