Gavin has been a member of Colin Biggers & Paisley's insurance team since 2003 and currently serves as joint practice leader of the same team.
Gavin has close to 30 years' experience as an insurance lawyer with expertise in general liability and professional indemnity. His clients include some of Australia's largest insurers, London market insurers and corporations.
A major part of Gavin's practice involves the defence of professional indemnity claims for professionals, including accountants, real estate agents, financial planners, insurance brokers, barristers and construction and design professionals. He also advises underwriters on complex indemnity issues and double insurance.
Gavin has particular experience in allied health and manages a range of claims for medical and allied health practitioners including acupuncturists, psychologists, radiographers, chiropractors, physiotherapist, sonographers, IVF clinics, Chinese traditional medicine practitioners, laser clinicians, optometrists, pharmacies and chemists, massage therapists, and personal trainers amongst others. These matters range from responding to HCCC/AHPRA complaints (and appeals) through to large complex civil claims for personal injury, as well as coronial inquests and Medicare audits.
Gavin has extensive expertise in general liability claims including bodily injury, property damage and product liability against builders, contractors, retailers and occupiers of commercial premises. He has handled many complex high value claims involving catastrophic injuries, sensitive matters and those involving multiple jurisdictions.
Gavin also advises his clients on risk management, recent legislative changes, and policy drafting and interpretation.
Gavin is listed in the 2018 to 2024 editions of The Best Lawyers in Australia in the field of Insurance Law, and in 2020 to 2024 he is also listed for Personal Injury Litigation. Gavin is recognised in Doyle's Guide in 2021 as a recommended Public and Product Liability Lawyer in New South Wales.
Gavin was admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1995 and is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW, Federal Court and High Court.
