Timothy Coghlan is a senior associate in the insurance team. He has had over four years' experience working in insurance and commercial litigation for some of Australia's largest insurers.
Timothy has acted in a number public liability and product liability matters. He has a depth of practical experience in litigation, including advising on:
- personal injury claims, including common law and occupiers liability matters and defending VWA recovery claims
- public liability matters concerning accidents on public roads and footpaths and advising clients on the application of the Road Management Act and Wrongs Act.
- residential tenancy disputes pursuant to the Residential Tenancies Act and Retail Leases Act (both Victoria) as well as acting for clients in similar disputes in the jurisdictions of NSW and QLD
- assessing property damage claims in class action litigation
Other litigated matters he has worked on include, advising clients with matters involving complex expert evidence in claims brought under the Australian Consumer Law, assessing property damage and advising on/acting for clients in product liability claims.
Timothy has had court appearances at the Supreme Court, County Court, VCAT and Magistrates’ Court and experience in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia jurisdictions.
Timothy has a Bachelor of Journalism in addition to his Bachelor of Laws. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2013.
